Pastoral visitors needed!
Our Pastoral Care Team could use your help for a few hours each week.  We have a number of parishioners who are housebound, some temporarily shut-in, some who are lonely and some unwell. An occasional visit or even just a phone call from someone who cares can be a great blessing. We would gladly provide some training and support if you feel you could help out. Please contact David Swift through the church office.

Choir
Organist and Choir Master: Ralph Langtry

Music is deeply embedded into the service of St. James. The choir, numbering close to 20 people, are a beloved institution in the parish. Many members of the choir have been singing at St. James for more than 20 years, and their experiencedand love of singing contributes to a beautiful sound!

Choir practice is at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday evening. Anyone interested in joining the choir is invited to come along. Being able to read music is not necessary.

St. James' beloved organist and choir director is Ralph Langtry He studied history at Queens University, Kingston, Ontario, (B.A. Hons 1960) and music with the Royal Conservatory of Music at Toronto (A.R.C.T 1956). He played for 35 years until he retired in 1997, at the same time as he retired from his career as a high school history teacher. Ralph returned as St. James' full-time organist in 2001. Ralph's beautiful playing before and after each service was turned into an LP disc in the 1980s and was sold to benefit church funds.

Also helping as assistant organist and director is Margaret Appleby, a long-time member of the St. James Choir.

On October 5, 2003 a celebration was held at St. James Church to mark the 100th anniversary of the Casavant Pipe Organ. It was electrified in 1955 by Raymond L. Barnes and rebuilt in 1972 by Hill, Norman and Beard
