Pastoral visitors needed!
Our Pastoral Care Team could use your help for a few hours each week. We have a number of parishioners who are housebound, some temporarily shut-in, some who are lonely and some unwell. An occasional visit or even just a phone call from someone who cares can be a great blessing. We would gladly provide some training and support if you feel you could help out. Please contact David Swift through the church office.

St. James Cemetery Database
Search Database of Parish Records
The online database was created by Tom Appleby (1934-2009), parishioner and choir member of St. James for over 25 years.
The database was composed as a card index by Robert (Bob) Stacey, a faithful member of church and choir for several decades, who laboured over old church records, and inspections of the actual ground and tombstones for several years. This information was placed on a database and exported as a text file, which was formatted and placed on the church website.
This saves time for those researching the family history or family trees. The data goes back as far as the early 1800s, which tallies with the time Carleton Place was founded, initially as Morphy's Falls.
Thomas Morphy was the man who "discovered" the small local waterfall and long series of shallow rapids among the then forest of skyscraper pines. Since then, the forests have been cut five times over, and largely disappeared. The river has been partially dammed, to cut out the rapids, and concentrate the water power in one area, at the small waterfall in the town centre, where once upon a time, sawmills and later electrical generators harnessed the water flow. The small waterfall is now a thing of beauty rather than utilitarian, overlooked by the town hall, a pub, restaurant and St. James Anglican Church.
